The museum is located in the Higley Homestead, an imposing brick home built in 1811, lived in by 5 generations of the Higley Family, and donated to the Castleton Historical Society in 1993. Collections pertain to Castleton and include 19th and 20th century furnishings, paintings, documents, and photographs. Downstairs rooms have reproduced c. 1812 stenciling, with some original stenciling showing in each room. Current exhibit displays Castleton Woman’s Club collection of recently documented 19th-century costumes and personal effects. Also on the grounds is a collection of antique carriages.
