The 10 Best Omelets in Vermont!

When it comes to a hearty, delicious breakfast, the Green Mountain State is king. Omelets across the state are served loaded up with Vermont cheeses, fresh vegetables, and locally-raised meats. Does it get any better than that? Check out these 10 great spots for some of the best omelets you’ve ever had.

Up for Breakfast, Manchester Center, VT

Established in 1989, this is a tiny yet hopping American breakfast and brunch joint serves up fluffy pancakes with real Vermont maple syrup, and scones are made fresh daily. But it is the specials that are, well, truly special, check out the brie/apple/bacon omelet, the venison pear sausage, or the pain perdu, oh my! And there are seven omelet choices alone on the regular menu, including the Red Flannel with slow cooked corned beef brisket, peppers, onions, shredded potatoes and Vermont cheddar cheese.

The Firebird Cafe, Essex Junction, VT

Firebird Cafe serves breakfast all day long, and it is no wonder once you have seen their menu.  Just look at these mouthwatering omelets: pork carnitas (shredded pork, sautéed mushrooms, red onions, avocado, shredded cheese, tomatillo sauce), spinach & red onion (baby spinach, sautéed mushrooms, red onions, pico de gallo, shredded cheese, poblano cream sauce), poblano chile (poblano peppers, black beans, red onions, pico de gallo, shredded cheese, chipotle sauce). Enough said.

Back Country Cafe, Killington, VT

Back Country Cafe serves hearty Vermont breakfast and brunch with delicious and creative omelets, like the horseradish omelet (horseradish, bacon, tomato, scallions, cheddar cheese) or the famous country omelet (apples, maple sausage, and cheddar). Also, all omelets are made with three farm-fresh eggs, and served with home fries and toast.

Maple Sugar & Vermont Spice, Mendon, VT

Served in an authentic sugarhouse, each meal is made to order. And, while the pumpkin pancakes and stuffed French toast are the specialties, the omelets here couldn’t be fresher or fluffier. Ham, cheese, mushrooms, spinach, onion, tomato, and peppers make up the usual suspects of add-ins, and three farm-fresh eggs are cracked on the spot to produce a silky, cheesy texture and a melty masterpiece.

Henry’s Diner, Burlington, VT

Henry’s has been doing breakfast right since 1925. This diner, with old-school style, serves up all-American eats (including all-day breakfast) like the Greek omelet (tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, and feta cheese), and the Vegetarian (tomato, onion, green peppers mushroom).

Penny Cluse Cafe, Burlington, VT

Penny has been offered hometown favorites on the corner of Church Street for almost 20 years.  Opened by Charles Reeves and Holly Cluse in 1998, the cafe was named after Holly’s childhood dog, Penny and their three-egg omelet is to die for. You get your choice of cheddar, jack, Swiss or feta cheese, and the meal comes with home fries & choice of toast, biscuits, corn muffins or grilled baguette.

With a name like the hatchery you know there has got to be some good eggs, right? With homemade pancakes served with real Vermont maple syrup, omelets, creative sandwiches, and a full vegetarian menu, and mammoth portions, you might want breakfast all day. With homemade corned beef and crab cakes on the menu you wouldn’t figure the cilantro omelet would be what folks are talking about, but there you have it.

Maxi’s Restaurant, Waterbury, VT

Breakfast is served all day long and egg dishes are served with home fries and toast or homemade biscuit. Get the goat cheese omelet (bacon, onion, roasted red pepper, and Vermont goat cheese), the Tex-Mex omelet, and over 12 add-ins. Get huevo rancheros, breakfast sandwiches, and more at Maxi’s
