Special Show of Vintage Ski Film 'Rivals' at Annual Meeting

Thursday, Jun 14, 2018 at 5:00pm

A lot has happened at Museum in the past year and we'd like to share our successes and future plans with the ski and snowboard community at our Annual Meeting.

After a brief business meeting we'll be showing "Rivals", a Joe Jay Jalbert film documenting the 1983 FIS World Cup Downhill season. That season featured many familiar names in downhill including Franz Klammer, Peter Mueller, Ken Read, and Marc Girardelli. The downhill World Cup title wasn't decided until the last race of the season held at Lake Louise in Canada.

American Joe Jay Jalbert is an accomplished skier who started making ski films in the 1960s. Long before the invention of GoPros, Jalbert experimented with filming from the skier's viewpoint. Jalbert was the skier-double for Robert Redford in the film "Downhill Racer" and filmed many of the skiing scenes. Jalbert was inducted into the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame in 2014.

Members and non-members are invited to join us. The event is kid-friendly. Refreshments will be served.
